Prior to conducting a search of your home, the police officer must provide you with a copy of a valid search warrant. If the officer does not have a valid search warrant or probable cause (or if he has not witnesses a crime or instruments of a crime in “plain view”) – then you have no legal obligation to allow them entry into your home.
